Branch Head retail banking for a large African Banking Corporation

Role: Branch Head retail banking for a large African Banking Corporation headquartered in Kenya.

The role based in Uganda. Candidates with 10-15 years of relevant experience preferred.


Duties and responsibilities involve:

The Branch Head will manage, direct, control and supervise the operation activities of the branch and ensure that the services rendered to customers are prompt and efficient without compromising controls and championing branch profitability and growth process.

He/She would champion branch CASA, Forex and term deposit targets. Deposit Rate Reduction (Cost of Funds) vis-à-vis Bank Chart rates. Increase the bank’s income through mobilization of business and control of Branch HR expenses and maintain effective intra-Branch service levels. Ensure that Branch premises, physical assets and equipment are kept in optimum state of repair and a pleasant and attractive Banks corporate image is portrayed. Ensure commissions and charges are collected in line with schedules of charges. Managing portfolio of non facility accounts. Oversee and ensure director accounts are not overdrawn.


Operations & Customer Care: Ensure efficient provision of exceptional customer service that maintains the Bank’s customer needs. Monitoring & controlling the number of customer complaints.

Manage and provide controls over operational risk/controls and staff/branch security. Review and assess the internal control systems of the branch.


Ensure all daily exception control reports are verified and complied with as per the set procedures on;

  • Override reports
  • High value transactions reports
  • Transactions in newly opened accounts
  • Dormant accounts reports
  • Cash reconciliation reports
  • Branch GL control reports
  • Daily QA reports
  • Daily branch income and expense reports
  • Branch daily registers
  • Waivers requests are properly completed, documented and filed
  • Branch filing is up to date
  • Any other relevant report actioning


Staff Management: Should ensure the staffs are motivated to maximise productivity by assigning complimentary duties and creating good working relationships. Train staff to ensure mobility and ultimate succession by identifying strengths, developing skills and empowering them in line with their areas of responsibility.


Cost Minimization: Ensuring effective utilisation of human resources to achieve maximum utilisation of man hours and to reduce staff costs such as overtime. Performing regular inspections to ensure branch premises is maintained in orderly and presentable manner. Strict monitoring to ensure the desired result is achieved

Ensuring all branch keys are recorded and are with the approved persons. Improving audit ratings by observing controls through regular checks, meeting deadlines, reviewing errors and through continuous Risk Self Assessment. Maintaining adequate cash levels at the branch by ensuring vault and teller cash limits are not exceeded. Restrict secure areas to authorised personnel and ensure security equipment is in good working order. Timely communication to the staff, any changes in the bank’s policy and procedures to avoid violations. Ensure bank procedures, controls and policies are strictly adhered to.
