What is the actual current scenario?

Looking at the current scenario we see that Indian cities have the potential to have over 300 new hypermarkets by 2011, mostly in tier-I and tier-II cities and even in 2008, 212 towns had sufficient market potential for hypermarkets for break-even existence. Also today things are gradually picking up momentum especially in the country’s home retail segment  which was among the categories worst affected by the slowdown with a decline of 15-25% in sales for e.g. leading players in this segment are hopeful of the trend picking up further steam, especially with the festive season right around the corner.  One can only watch and be hopeful about the quick revival of the retail segment. Some articles from the industry Government not to relax FDI policy in retailhttp://www.omretail.com/india/ Online Retailing in India - Do we expect Amazon, Ebay to take over the retail space? http://indiaretailforum.blogspot.com/2008/07/online-retailing-in-india-do-we-expect.html   Retailers discover potential in the ‘back-to-school’ markethttp://www.livemint.com/2009/08/03223321/Retailers-discover-potential-i.html?h=B Retail players eager to corner Indian market   http://business.smh.com.au/business/retail-players-eager-to-corner-indian-market-20090802-e5we.html Hope you have enjoyed the article and next week we will talk about all the big retail players, what are the doing different and their plans in India….
